When the baby just needs to be held, a sling can be very useful in the home. For the first months, until the baby can sit without help, it is helpful when the baby can be wrapped up comfortably in a horizontal position and kept warm with arms and legs tucked in together rather than separated from the body, and facing up rather than out or in. It is just important to make sure the baby’s face is free - that the baby isn’t at risk of being smothered.
